Chapter 29
Incoming danger
Just as Aisha was on the verge of dispelling her anxiety, the ominous sounds of low, ravenous growls echoed through the corridor, sending shivers down her spine. Lukah also heard the menacing sounds and had his firearm, approximately the size of a shotgun, tightly gripped in his hand, ready for action.
As they turned around, they were met with the chilling sight of three dreadful, monstrous-looking goats, their malevolent glares fixed upon them. Each goat boasted two horns, approximately two feet long, sharp and slightly curved to the side. Unlike typical goats, they lacked hooves, instead having skinny legs with dog-like paws. What made these goats particularly horrifying was their near hairless bodies, with only minimal or no fur at all. Their slimy appearance gave the impression of being coated with some oily substance, akin to grease. Furthermore, their wrinkled skin and lopsided features only added to their hideously terrifying appearance.
At the sight of the intimidating goats, Aisha flinched, and fear instantly surged within her. Her voice trembled as she whispered, “Luke…” Never before in her life had she felt such overwhelming dread, fearing for her very life.
“Stand back,” Lukah whispered to Aisha, and she obediently withdrew, heeding his caution.
With remarkable speed, the goats lunged forward, charging towards Lukah. He held his gun steady and fired three consecutive shots at them.
The goats dodged every single shot.
Impossible.
Both Aisha and Lukah were taken aback. The ximeon proved ineffective in impeding the goats, failing to cause them any harm. The goats continued their relentless advance, undeterred. Lukah fired more ximeons at them, yet the creatures skillfully evaded each one with fluid and agile movements, remaining unscathed. It became evident that these were not ordinary animals; they had undergone genetic mutations, altering their nature.
They were fast.
“Damn!” He swiftly retrieved his Kazza and began wielding it against the oncoming goats, attempting to strike them. However, to his surprise, his blows barely made contact as the goats exhibited an astonishing speed. They relentlessly tried to corner Lukah against the wall with their horns, moving at a fearful pace that made it incredibly challenging for him to coordinate his movements and defend against their continuous attacks.
“Damn those pesky goats,” Aisha cussed. She took a deep breath. Lukah clearly needed help. Determined to help, she had her whip at the ready. Despite her shaky nerves, she firmly gripped the handle, ensuring it wouldn't slip from her hand. Aisha had been learning to use the whip since she was nine, but this was an entirely new experience for her. Previously, she had only practiced with the whip in the martial arts room, attending military classes twice a week for training.
Okay, experience plus practice make perfect. But this is nothing like a martial arts class. Bummer. Aisha thought to herself.
